The AL Wild Card game tonight is between the biggest rivalry in baseball, the Yankees and the Red Sox. Both teams finished the regular season with a record of 92-70 and now face each other while both teams are dealing with a few injuries. The Sox will be without Jose Iglesias, who had hit .356 for Boston since being claimed off waivers (ineligible for playoffs), and also without All-Star DH JD Martinez. The Yankees opted not to pitch Gerrit Cole on short rest on Sunday so he could start today. Cole has struggled lately but in the playoffs is a different type of beast. He has a 2.68 ERA in the playoffs and has allowed more than 2 runs just twice in 8 playoff starts in his last 2 postseasons. Nathan Eovaldi was just hit hard by the Yankees in Boston and his only playoff experience was in 2018. The Yankees also have the better bullpen while the Red Sox bullpen is inconsistent. The early money has been coming in on the Yankees causing typical line movements. While the Yankees can hit the long ball, the Red Sox have been more consistent all year as they ranked 3rd in batting average and 4th in runs scored while the Yankees ranked 23rd and 19th in those categories. This is going to be a good game but look for the Yankees pitching to get the job done here.
