Two teams with completely different offensive styles meet as the Yankees host the Guardians in the opener of the ALDS. The Yankees started the season strong, getting to 64-28 at the All-Star break, and then slumped for 6 weeks before heating back up down the stretch. Cleveland advanced to meet the Yankees after scoring its 3 runs via home runs in 24 innings in the wild-card round against Tampa Bay. Cleveland is 26-6 in its last 32 games. The Guardians were just 4 games over .500 through Sept 4. but pulled away and won the division by 11 games. While Cleveland does not rely on the long ball, its 3.46 ERA was 6th in MLB and after getting quality starts from Shane Bieber and Triston McKenzie against Tampa Bay, the Guardians are hoping to keep the trend going when Cal Quantrill makes his first postseason start. Quantrill was 15-5 with a 3.38 ERA and ended the regular season by going 11-0 with a 2.95 ERA over his final 17 starts. Quantrill is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 4 career appearances against the Yankees. His only start against them this season was back in April at New York, when he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits in 6 1/3 innings. Gerrit Cole is hoping for a better postseason than last year and is making his first Yankees postseason start in New York. Cole is facing Cleveland for the second time in the postseason. He faced them in Game 1 of the 2020 wild-card round, when he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 7 innings of a 12-3 win. Cole is 8-5 with a 2.93 ERA in 14 postseason starts and he went 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 2 starts against Cleveland on April 24 and July 2.
⚾The Guardians are 0-6 in their last 6 Divisional Playoff games.
⚾The Guardians are 0-5 in their last 5 playoff road games.
⚾The Yankees are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings with the Guardians.
⚾The Yankees are 54-21 in their last 75 home games.

Las Vegas hockey begins tonight when the Vegas Golden Knights open their 2022-23 campaign in Los Angeles against the Kings. The Golden Knights will be without starting goaltender Robin Lehner for the season because of double hip surgery but captain Mark Stone, who had just 9 goals and 30 points in 37 games is healthy again along with mid-season acquisition Jack Eichel, who had 14 goals and 11 assists in 34 games following neck surgery. The Kings finished 3rd in the Pacific with 99 points and lost to Edmonton in 7 games in the 1st round of the Western Conference playoffs and that surprising run, the Kings will try to deal with increased expectations this season since they haven’t won a playoff series since the team’s 2014 Stanley Cup run.
🏒The Road team is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
🏒The Over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Los Angeles.
🏒The Golden Knights are 37-17 in their last 54 after scoring 5+ goals in their previous game.
🏒The Kings are 0-5 in their last 5 after scoring 5+ goals in their previous game.
