7:00 PM Michigan State Spartans vs Kentucky Wildcats

Spartans
: +7.5
Wildcats

Just one week into the season and Michigan State is preparing for a 2nd game against an opponent ranked in the Top 5. The Spartans took on #2 Gonzaga on an aircraft carrier in San Diego last Friday and now they take on #4 Kentucky in the first game of the annual Champions Classic in Indianapolis. The Spartans nearly pulled off the upset against Gonzaga, falling 64-63 after dominating most of the game until the Zags rallied late in the 2nd half. The biggest question for Kentucky is the status of returning National Player of the Year Oscar Tshiebwe, who hasn’t played in the first 2 games of the season after undergoing a knee procedure in October. If Tshiebwe doesn’t play, Kentucky has other weapons in senior point guard Sahvir Wheeler who led the SEC in assists the last 2 seasons along with senior guards Antonio Reeves and CJ Fredrick provide shooting and scoring, while Cason Wallace and Chris Livingston are high ranked freshmen. The biggest surprise for Michigan State against Gonzaga was the play of junior center Mady Sissoko who was used minimal during his first 2 years in the program but he had 14 points with 7 rebounds and more than held his own against Gonzaga star Drew Timme. Michigan State has deep guard play with ball handling guards in A.J. Hoggard, Tyson Walker and Jaden Akins so if Sissoko can play at the same level, they should do well. This will be the first meeting between the teams since the 2019 Champions Classic, when Kentucky won 69-62.

🏀The Wildcats are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games.

🏀The Wildcats are 5-18 ATS in their last 23 games following a ATS win.

🏀The Spartans are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games.

🏀The Spartans are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games following a straight up loss.

9:30 PM Kansas Jayhawks vs Duke Blue Devils

Jayhawks: -1.5
Blue Devils
: +1.5
Total
: 144.5

Neither the #5 Kansas or the #7 Duke will be at full strength when they meet tonight in the Champions Classic in Indianapolis. The Jayhawks (2-0) have opened their season with easy wins over Omaha and North Dakota State and they’ll be without head coach Bill Self and assistant coach Kurtis Townsend as both are serving the third game of a 4-game suspension imposed by the school for their involvement in a recruiting scandal. The Blue Devils (2-0) are coming off even easier wins against Jacksonville and USC Upstate, but played those games without 5-star freshman wing Dariq Whitehead and played the Jacksonville game without center Dereck Lively. However, freshman Mark Mitchell is averaging a team-high 15.5 points through 2 games and another freshman, center Kyle Filipowski, has recorded double-doubles in both games. Filipowski, Lively and Northwestern transfer Ryan Young (11.5 ppg, 7.5 rebounds per game) give Duke one of the nation’s top frontcourts. In the backcourt, Jeremy Roach is averaging 13 points and 6.0 assists so far with an assist-turnover ratio slightly better than 2-1. Kansas’ last game was an 82-59 rout of North Dakota State Thursday night and they got 21 points from Jalen Wilson and a 12-point, 6-rebound peformance from freshman guard Gradey Dick. Wilson is averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds so far, while Dick is adding 17.5 points per game and hitting 58% of his shots. The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 8-5 with a 68-66 victory in 2019 in the teams’ last matchup.

🏀The Jayhawks are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.

🏀The Blue Devils are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

🏀The Underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.

The Bookie: Duke +1.5
