The Cardinals newly acquired Lester has worked six or more innings just three times in 16 starts this season. Lester is 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA in two starts against the Braves this season and he is 7-3 with a 2.44 ERA in 13 career starts against them. Fried pitched well in a 9-1 victory over the Cardinals earlier this season, allowing one run on two hits and two walks in seven innings. He is 2-0 with a 0.61 ERA lifetime against St. Louis in three appearances, including two starts. Fried got his third win in four starts his last time out, allowing just two runs in 7 innings with a season-high 9 strikeouts. This will be Lester’s first time pitching as a member of the St Louis Cardinals so there could be a little bit of a learning curve to get on the same page with Molina. The Braves are 7-2 in their last nine games played in St Louis. St. Louis has a tendency to go ice cold at the plate and it does not have the power to manufacture runs in bunches. Atlanta’s offense is the strength of its team and it should be even better after adding Joc Pederson, Adam Duvall, and Jorge Soler prior to the trade deadline.
