The Brewers will finally play their home opener against the division-rival Cardinals. The Brewers are going with Brandon Woodruff (0-1, 17.18 ERA) and the Cardinals are starting Adam Wainwright (1-0, 0.00). The Brewers had a late-game in Baltimore last night while the Cardinals’ early game was postponed due to weather giving them and the bullpen the day off and a short trip to Milwaukee. Considering this is opening day for the Brewers they will be distracted by all the festivities that go with it after the long road trip. Devin Williams, Brad Boxberger, and Josh Hader are the three top Brewers bullpen arms and they all pitched each of the last two nights. Brandon Woodruff struggled in his first start allowing 7 ER in 3.2 IP against the Cubs. Adam Wainwright pitched 6 scoreless in his first start. Wainwright has a 20-12 career mark and a 2.60 earned-run average against the Brewers. The Cardinal offense is averaging 6.25 rpg while the Brewers offense is averaging 3.18rpg.  The Cardinals were 11-8 overall against the Brewers last season and 7-3 in Milwaukee. Look for the Cardinals to take the first of the 4 game series.

8:40 p.m. ET: Chicago Cubs (3-2) at Colorado Rockies (4-1)

The Rockies are in familiar territory with another hot start to the season that usually ends by the end of April. Following a two-game road sweep of the Texas Rangers and a day off, the Rockies will try to win their 5th consecutive game against the Cubs. Kyle Freeland (0-1, 12.27 ERA) will make his second start of the season for Colorado while the Cubs send Justin Steele (1-0, 0.00) to the mound in a matchup of left-handers. In Steele’s first start this season, he dominated the Brewers over 5 innings allowing 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5 in the 9-0 win. Freeland struggled in his first start, a 5-3 loss to the Dodgers allowing 5 runs on 5 hits. The Cubs have a career team batting average of .347 against Freeland with 12 hits in 29 at-bats. The Cubs Gomes (.500), Happ (.400), Schwindel (.500), Villar (.875), and Wisdom (.500) with homers by Happ and Villar. The Rockies are off to a hot start but have got lucky a few times against the Rangers and Dodgers. The Dodgers offense was also slumping in that first series while the Cubs rolled over the Brewers in 2 out of 3. The Cubs lineup doesn’t have the star power that we are used to seeing but these boys are hungry to hit the ball and we’ll see that today at the friendly Coors field.
